It would be easy to choose from my own collection since it's not such a huge one. It would have definitely been my trusty YSL Downtown, but I am feeling more of a dreamer today hence I will give myself a hard time and pick one from my many favourites. They don't call it a challenge for nothing.

I personally have a few favorites now from Alexander Wang to Celine, Philip Lim and Gucci but I want to save the rest for the remaining 30 days of this challenge. And so, without further delay, I shall pick none other than the Lady Dior.

This handbag is one of the best classics ever designed on the world of handbag fashion. Sure, most would probably choose a Chanel 2.55 over this one any day but that is what makes me love the Lady Dior even more - it's exclusive clientele. Not everyone relates to my lust for this bag and I like it that way coz I was never one to conform.

The fact that this handbag was named after one of the most inspiring women of our time, Princess Diana, is just a freebie.

Just have a look at the intricacy of its "Cannage" stitching, the glow of its gold / silver "D.I.O.R" hardware, the sleekness of the patent leather and the suppleness of its lambskin equal. It's intoxicating.

Each season the Lady Dior is reinterpreted to cater to latest trends and looks of the brand's collection. And every time, it still looks exceptional and exquisite - far above the rest of its peers. The latest masterpiece from the Christian Dior luxury house is the Lady Grey, a double-strap patent leather handbag in the understated shade of (you know it) grey.

Shot in London with this final photo atop the London Eye, this is the final episode of the handbag's 2011 campaign featuring French actress and singer, Marion Cotillard. What with her transforming French luxury fashion house Céline from a second league brand into a front runner, especially after its unfortunate dip since Michael Kors. But when I saw the Luggage Tote, I don't think she deserves to be called a genius. Click on the handbag name mentioned above.

As you've probably guessed, I am making my online selection as we speak :) Have a look at www.reedkrakoff.com and tell me which is your personal favourite!andeehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03895947041298432634noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2916606197112115020.post-47281631424359475072011-04-14T22:10:00.000-07:002011-04-14T22:53:50.073-07:00My Love-Affair With Handbags: The OriginsBefore I could even afford to purchase branded handbags, there was only one brand of luxurious ridiculosity that I coveted, wished and hoped to purchase…

It might seem laughable, pathetic, and slightly diminutive, and may muster a couple “sheesh”es from some. But without a hint of shame, I confess my lust-worthy fantasy handbag brand: none other than Cream of the Huge-Amounts-of-Money-Generating, Luxurious-Cow-Skin-Carrier-Producing Crop, the grandfather of quality Italian leather goods, PRADA.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-XsQfTIBmQrSi-7emn1k-jA82G-WXAI4wqUpqONu9SW_kgzkBH_EJTIL6bB_HwsYnEHEMTgXp0Sd7wMuT56-DL15EBtdrQyMkgsy6AmIyeY9tfIlv5DDMBbCPNmsZLi50XL4Qswp191k/s400/Prada-Logo.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5595681553218291986" />
(Collective sighs of irritation.)

To understand my admiration for Prada, I have to take you all back. Back to when I was but a mere pre-adolescent teen, and the most branded item I’ve owned was probably that pair of Nude Suede Loafers from Hush Puppies, given by my mum in an attempt to be one of those hip mothers of her time. Or it could also be that green and navy plaid Ralph Lauren backpack that literally hurt me so much to carry (what with all my notebooks and textbooks), but which I kept using anyway as it was a definitive proof of my not being the typical student who knew not of designers.

Fast forward when to when I was in Sixth Grade, my older sister rented the movie “10 Things I Hate About You”. A teeny, romantic comedy starring a young and very alive Heath Ledger; a then-popular Andrew Keegan; and a conveniently-forgotten-to-wear-a-bra-today-no-everyday Julia Stiles, among other casts.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 285px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBREByR3WbmVoGfiijGPKqYo3hZL71ByzMwAdj__8Wph7Iv4I68D0XPLiDh9wuDeDPrOkoIdIgY0xJRsMmPDnFtni21ttz4IXhnMHqss285jLh7Wmxn5ISRZZ8wPMvMYohd8HT-DLqojk/s400/10-things-i-hate-about-you-7393834138401-01.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5595682325902593586" />
In the movie, Julia Stiles portrayed the role of an elder sister to clueless teen named Bianca (played by Larisa Oleynik). Bianca has a best friend who is equally as clueless as her, if not more. Both chicks delivered a dialogue, which you’d think I’d immediately dispose from my brain, but stuck to me like glue instead.

Bianca: There's a difference between like and love. I mean I like my Skechers, but I love my Prada backpack.
Chastity: But I love my Skechers.
Bianca: That's because you don't have a Prada backpack.

After much research on the word “Prada” in the local library, an obsession was born. Naturally, to rally a pair of Skechers from my parents was a piece of cake. But to even try asking them for a Prada backpack when I was in sixth grade was a scary thought. Hence, I gave up the love altogether and settled for the like.

13 years later, I am transformed from a 12 year-old fashion emergency to a yuppie who dreams of working in the Fashion industry, and everyone on the streets of Singapore owns a Prada handbag, even my sister and copycat flatmate. I could now well-afford one, but on judgment day, I was swayed by Yves Saint Laurent in a form of a supple leather number called Downtown.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 333px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQcbpWYiBpTDCVZlo8zsoco2fxzTre1jbrpat70on4hMQN7vSAqTIdlmCjMhNJpRCOGTruRGoRqQFUlR9rMJUWzPm4KzBKTVPT4truBqnPz4X0BwjKigS8zg69yp1l34XXFHAXpaLWYMk/s400/ysl+downtown+large.jpeg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5595682680150754146" /> So the obsession continues…

One fine day, dot-com luxury haven, Reebonz (Sign up now!), announced a contest entitled Reebonz Spring Clean Blogger Contest where one can win for herself a handbag from a selection of six, and one of those handbags was a Prada Tessuto Impuntu chain-strap handbag in emerald. But seeing as the top fashion designers in the world took inspiration from one shoe and gave birth to creations beloved even more by others, I figured sooner or later, someone affordable will come along. And so cue Charles and Keith!

This Singaporean shoe generators gave birth to a pair of cage shoes that looks so much like that of Jimmy Choo’s but with a little more edge chipped-in by its silver-coloured platforms and heels. And to top it all off, they are as comfortable as running around in sneakers, except you’d run in this one with more poise and fashion sense, of course!

Naturally, a girl can’t stare, drool and walk away. Nah –uh! That’s reserved for bratty little kids outside the Willy Wonka factory. So I zoomed in on my prey like the leather (or faux leather) predator that I am, asked for my size and swiped my card to 5% of what Jimmy Choo was charging for these beauties. I always believe it is nice to share, hence, see below my little caged toes :)

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxTnf0fazrOtgSTR1AHG3tpgovWbdb-GSqvmFseCcw0Um4Th7m93nqbxNGzNuwrWBijmkvpqzQ8GnIlm8KMMRR_vxrQVuNFC0EeoqsSnSlwylZNd2MKoPMznaScDoL030xh4S2-Nh9veg/s400/photo+%252845%2529.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5579782435560470754" />andeehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03895947041298432634noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2916606197112115020.post-6534151514077786822011-02-28T02:31:00.000-08:002011-05-19T04:02:17.588-07:00Spring in My Steps!My love for shoes has taken over me.

I have recently promised my boyfriend and myself that I will stop shopping for shoes due to the fact that my room is now overflowing with them. To date, I have numbers uncountable and am quite ashamed so. I know I shouldn't be, but it gets quite worrying when the cash in your wallet has been replaced by platforms in your shoe cabinet. I am afraid that I will one day literally be the old woman who lived in her shoe.

I’ve been quite good in keeping this promise and in trying to kick the habit until my sister decided to buy me a pair of Aldos just because. Being the pauper that I am, I would only spend up to $100 on a pair of shoes and not a dime more than that. I don’t have pairs of Manolos or Maglis lying around at home so you can imagine my hesitation on getting another pair dissolving instantly as soon as the sis offered.

I’ll be posting pics of that swanky pair of heels soon but first, to more pressing matters. After I shopped for that Aldo pair, I decided to walk around and window shop while my sister grabs a bite to eat. I soon came upon Forever21 and saw this:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYVvaw2Iczx_9z-F23ozN5EPd4cN9PrMU2v7jAQdF1j6BEzKPqBfMBdlNwLkK5kLJACJAIDyxzoaNu0GLRjjW25u_NUzTCMuEYGl1b3BfD4NMbaV3e8YVIMc8wksZDg3ZwHpr8bwZL5Vw/s400/shoes.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5578696862844069010" />

And as you would have guessed, I bought it in a heartbeat (those are my feet wearing them).

The Floral Print Platform Pumps from Forever21 is divine. It is literally a Spring Garden on a pair of heels! Armed with enough charm to kick the Annual Rose Parade in the ass, this 5inch platform is just too irresistible for a rehabilitating addict – even if their smallest is a size bigger than my little 5s (if you look closer at the photo, there is space at the ankle area and front top part).

Regardless, it is comfortable and chic – the two C’s I look for in a pair of walkers. I’m sure you guys are itching to get yours too! Go on, I won’t tell if you won’t :)andeehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03895947041298432634noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2916606197112115020.post-63833054136514546752011-02-26T13:47:00.000-08:002011-02-28T02:07:50.121-08:00This Just In: Prada Tessuto ImpuntuA brand referred to by most people as a "status symbol", Prada has stayed true to its form since the company started almost a century ago, in 1913. Well-recognized for their leather goods and most especially for the lush handbags under their belt, Prada has gone on to create more luxurious items using premium fabrics and opulent materials. One of those items being the Prada Tessuto Impuntu handbag in Emerald.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 267px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj593i219gr1DrbU_ZGS1eAiEFGmqfamx04elDLlHVbvuCOjjzWuMgkhZYueo8SYWlGBBIaPSN9Bkg8QiB5wRnqwKMxU7NPJMA-_V-H4FQFWHBtlTAnSIo3aR3WzAoj9oULQNQN0CYguYU/s400/prada.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5578138440552576466" />Rarely do you come across a handbag that goes with everything. Although most would probably beg to differ, I believe this to be true until recently -- and we have the Spring trends of 2011 to thank!

During the recent New York Fashion Week, lots of prints and bold colours were seen strutting in heels down the runway. Many of which showed great bravado through combinations we once thought unimaginable. To showcase my take on Spring 2011 and its splendid result to bold medleys, I am daring to create 3 outfits based on this season's trends paired with one gorgeous Prada Tessuto Impuntu. Brace yourselves!

My first is an outfit perfect for a sunny day out. Summer is around the corner, so work on the tan before anyone gets theirs. NYC Prep chronicles the lives of six teenagers in Manhattan's private school scene. NYC Prep will follow six Manhattan teenagers in their daily lives as they attend events such as weekend parties, fashion shows, shopping sprees, charity events and dinner parties.” NYC Prep is a show with a cast of six silly and pathetic teenagers who dare to think that they are the real-life equivalent of Chuck, Nate, Blair and Serena.

I’m a bit upset Wikipedia did not include that last sentence!

I don’t know what’s gotten into Bravo channel and their ridiculous ideas for reality shows. You have one with aging housewives who has Botox fetishes and a knack for catfights, acting like they haven’t finished living out their cheerleader dreams since High School. Then there’s that other one where they have celebrity has-beens and wannabes act all Posh Spice and battle it out with needle and fabric to launch their own clothing line. And now, this!

Looking at the casts’ photo posted above, I have a feeling the blonde one is their Serena (and that’s the only similarity between the two), the brunette in the red satin blouse is the closest they can find to casting as Blair, the other brunette on the right side in yellow cardigan, they’re probably passing off as the loser Blair bullied in Constance, but don’t get me started on the wide-eyed girl with poop on her hair (third from left).

As for dissecting the guys, the brooding, emo, eye-liner loving, Adam Lambert look-alike in the middle should be their version of the dreamboat that is Chuck, while the blonde Beiber Admirer is probably Nate gone bad.

Obviously these kids were born with silver, perhaps even gold spoons in their traps and they might be swimming in coins like Uncle Scrooge in Duck Tales but unfortunately what they have in dollars, they lack in looks.

What say you kids leave it to the professional actors and actresses to live your lives on TV? That way, we don’t waste perfectly good rolls of video tape. Or I can also suggest you gather those big bags of moolah and splurge them on a good surgeon! Ask those crazy bastards to wave their magic knives and needles to make you look like the GG cast.

You know you love me. xoxo

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 250px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPJck6UXG0v3ILBSSEo8KxjKh4N4BFnkpb5ASZ6X7s1ZG0t7TE3WHGH0uhHyLPE1-T2DqUHOvzsHW4DmfozIt76H1mAsWRXORgHEzkGr8YvHdEzprUeDOHULeFrLiuOIN5ibL1XImD478/s400/Gossip.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5574628243965584498" />andeehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03895947041298432634noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2916606197112115020.post-5107010930491350682011-02-17T00:11:00.000-08:002011-02-17T00:17:03.522-08:00Prada Raso Pietre Clutch: Disappointing!<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 140px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEoCjKNiTL2ePy_mSaBOMvFN3izKFmy9rB7AasfOHocjV3OdfdFbaS5ufmYQr93Ow2Mc9UpUvfBATJzrrxhq6ok6JhLsbbBWZQHxB56ZhxV0VI7V6qd8JTQvv7l_6q32wF9wElXRgT2tc/s400/Picture3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5574569020980145922" />

Seen above on the left hand side of the photo is the new Prada Raso Pietre Clutch in Arancio (or in layman’s term, Coral. In pauper lingo, reddish orange.)

Now, I’ve been a big, if not, huge fan of Prada since I discovered my love for fashion the 90s. They’ve always delivered luxurious handbags to Fashion Week’s doorstep and never fails to show creativity in their designs be it in the selection of colour of fabric. Granted, they have had their share of faux pas in the past (red: Chandelier Dress and Shoes on Rita Wilson, 2010 Emmys), but I think they would know better than to charge $2,100 on this sad looking excuse for an evening bag.

As soon as I saw this clutch, I immediately remembered Sex and The City’s 3rd episode on season 6. The part when the four gals went to visit a friend who just went thru a break-up and apparently “discovered” that she’s “Fendi” – yes, I stress the open and end quotes. Refer to the photo on the right, the similarity is uncanny!
Well, maybe not that uncanny but it’s just as unfortunate. Come to think of it, it kinda looks like this too:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 224px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnighXHgoxPc7kRr2exoWxKGszgELpTedFJzIhlXmjpxsJ5AeLLtXDR22HIxDHY0cUvSaS9tscKs4JMlCwgcskyqrr8v_R-GR0OssMj25rQBAN8Ze8jX6U7Fc2GiYj6bCpe6XYbZVhcSk/s320/1423candy.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5574568582463006994" />

Hey, maybe I can also be a bag designer. You are truly a poised, well-graced woman with beautiful features and a gorgeous figure. I applaud you for your commendable qualities as well as the judges of Ms. Philippines for having picked you as our country’s representative in the most prestigious pageant recognized in all the 7 continents.

With this said, I would like to inform you, as well as anyone else who would have granted me the time of the day to read this letter, that I am a true-blue Filipino. Born and raised half-way in the Philippines, I have nothing but love, compassion and patriotism running inside my veins for our beloved country. This is specifically the reason as to why I am penning this letter.

If you would be so kind as to refer to the entry by Mr. Daniel Wagner by following the link stated here, you would understand the purpose of my letter.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/daniel-wagner/the-philippine-bus-and-mi_b_694544.html
Which brings me to ask the question, “why?”

First, I would like to know why you were not able to answer a simple and obvious, and may I add, common beauty pageant question such as this. This question has been used in beauty contests not only as prestigious as Ms. Universe, but on local television pageants aired on noon-time television shows in our country. I’ll even go as far as to say that even fiesta pageants like Ms. Gay and probably, let’s say, Ms. Bulacan or Ms. Cavite have heard of this question before. Now, the participants in these contests might have not been able to answer the question successfully either but they were not representing a country and neither were they internationally televised for all the world to see.

I have heard and read that you were “nervous” but is that really the best excuse you can muster for our fellowmen who sat in their own or their neighbors’ and friends’ houses, their eyeballs pasted on the television screen to catch a glimpse of our proud Ms. Philippines striving to make the world envy our country for its women’s beauty and literacy in the English language? I would have to apologize, Ms. Raj, but I personally do not accept this excuse. Every single woman on stage with you during that moment, I am certain, felt the same unsettling emotion but all four of them were able to provide acceptable responses to their judges’ questions.

I also would like to know why you referred to Mr. William Baldwin as “Sir” as I don’t recall him being knighted by any King or Queen in the present day or otherwise. I understand it could be your way of showing respect but this is simply not the way to do it. You could have referred to him as ”Mr. Baldwin” eg. “Thank you very much for that wonderful question, Mr. Baldwin” or have not acknowledged his name or stature at all, just like the other contestants did, as your answer should have been conveyed to the audience and not only to the judge eg. “Thank you very much for that wonderful question” and proceed to answering the question.

Another query of mine: may I know why you had to open your formal response with “You know what, Sir”? I may not be an English major but simply put, that was tragic. Not a little – very tragic. I don’t think I have to expound on this. It is self-explanatory, right?

Let’s go to the body of your answer. I would like to ask why you felt you had to state the word “major” twice in one sentence and why it was said next to each other. Was there a need for it? Using major, in itself, was a mistake as formal replies requires formal references. You could referred to your “major major problem” as “ a significant problem” or simply “a big problem”. That would have still been a wrong acknowledgement to his question, as he asked “What is the biggest MISTAKE…” and not “biggest PROBLEM”, but it would have been a less controversial and embarrassing one.

Now let’s proceed to your entire answer and allow me quote you from a local news website, "You know what, sir, in my 22 years of existence, I can say that there's nothing major major problem that I've done in my life because I'm very confident with my family, with the love that they are giving to me. So thank you so much that I'm here. Thank you, thank you so much!" Really? Why? Why did you not understand the question? Why did you answer with a completely different point? Why did you have to thank everyone thrice? And why would you construct a sentence with “there’s nothing major major problem”?

I know you are not to blame for the hostage-taking that took place in our country on the same day of the pageant but the least you could have done as our country’s representative was help us, your countrymen, in diverting the attention of the world to the negative occurrence that took place in our country, or at least wash off some of the ridicule brought by the tragedy and not add salt to the injury.

Yes, the event has passed. We are all reduced to smaller beings now by other races and there is nothing we can do about it but wait for time to erase the memory. They said, there is no such thing as bad publicity, but I beg to differ. In a day, the Philippines was involved in two tragedies that has made it into one too many countries’ media highlights. Now that, I’d day, is a major, major problem.andeehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03895947041298432634noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2916606197112115020.post-28412518366688285732010-07-25T21:12:00.000-07:002010-07-25T21:23:40.121-07:00Friendship: Annulled

blissful friendship, my best friend dumped me for another woman. I guess you could say things like this happen to friends, they just drift apart. And I would have gladly accepted if it was Mother Nature’s act, but it wasn’t. My best friend dumped me for his girlfriend.

Ouch!

I know, right? That was just like 96 months or 2,920 significant days of my life gone down the drain – and I had no choice but to take it. You see, in situations like these, life gives you two choices: (a) see it as eye for an eye and don’t get mad – get even. TP his house, spread rumours about the skank like wildfire, implant old prawn shells in their bags and cupboards, and/or kidnap and kill their favourite pet. OR (b) bawl your eyes out but act graciously and say thank you after the dreaded conversation even though they’re being cocky about the whole situation, which they were.

Since I am a mature adult (and couldn’t let them think it was affecting me too much), I chose option (b) and bawled my eyes out mercilessly. I know, right? Pathetic. But don’t forget gracious. I take pride in that one.

So now, I am basically out of one best friend (position is available, if anyone is interested) and I have to accept it like it’s no biggy. Which I hate to admit kinda is. But I’m a big girl, I need big diamonds and I need to be a grown up.

I know sometime next month or the month after that, I’ll probably be over this sh*t. It’s just gonna be another one of those things in my life I experienced and posted on my blog. Eight long years is hard to forget, heck, that’s a third of my life! That turd threw out a third of my life and he didn’t break it to me gently either!

The guy to whom I used to breathe out my heartbreaks to and thought to be the person who would never break my heart just did. I know I’m too old to be even joining the contest but since I am currently free-loading off my boyfriend’s computer, I thought it’d be a good chance to actually have my own. And so the letter-writing drama begins...

Why do I deserve to win the limited edition Disney Netbook? Well, for the simple reason that I have never owned a laptop/netbook before.

In the (insert age here) years of my life, I have never ever been graced the pleasure of having my own computer and this contest might just be the only chance that I have in getting one – well, that, and buying one for myself out of my own pocket which I don’t have the budget to back me up for. When I was in Grade School, my dad bought a Compaq Presario PC for the whole family and I was ecstatic! But of course that is for all of us (me plus my parents and three other siblings) so that does not count as my own. When I was in university, I had to borrow my sister’s laptop to do my homework, papers and research and it was ooooooone slooooooow coooooooow – which she still uses up to now, by the way, God bless her.

Whenever I go to parties with my friends and I take photos from my phone camera, you can count on the fact that it will take me about 3-5months before I upload the photos up on friendster or facebook since I don’t have the means to upload the photos. This is after much badgering from my friends and colleagues to “just upload it already!!!!”. Of course, I can’t always use my office PC (even though I’ve done it quite a few times -- sorry boss!).

There are days when I am expected to work from home so to do that, I have to put on my doe-eyed, pity-me look and knock on my flatmates’ doors to grant me a couple of hours with their beloved computers. That is, provided they, themselves, are not using it to update their own personal web blogs or read about the latest news and gossip. Oh, how it breaks my heart…

I am a frustrated writer-slash-blogger but I haven’t had the chance to show off my smart antics to the web world due to fact that I have limited access to a computer. In our house, which I share with 5 other people, I am the only one not paying for the internet bill since I am not using it – how can I when I do not have anything to connect to the internet with?

As I am writing this email, I am using my sister’s ever-reliable 6-year old laptop, who, thankfully, still serves its purpose one way or another. I look forward to having my pitiable state knock on the doors of your heart and hope you will consider granting me a once-in-a-lifetime Oprah moment by knocking on my door with a big smile – hopefully, with a Limited Edition Disney (insert laptop brand here) notebook at hand.

Peace,Autumn Riley

PS:I love Disney movies and cartoons since I was young, by the way! I memorize dialogues from Fairy Tales! Big – no, huge fan!
andeehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03895947041298432634noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2916606197112115020.post-7330391217780524732009-09-22T22:46:00.000-07:002009-09-22T23:30:05.937-07:00Save Karyn, a delightful read :)I was at a book sale a few months back and saw this book called “Save Karyn: A True-Life Shopaholics’s Journey to Debt and Back” by Karyn Bosnak (mine was the UK version). Since it was a second-hand paperback, it set me back a mere $2.

Now, I gotta admit I’m an impulsive buyer when it comes to clothes, shoes and bags – especially if it’s like love at first sight – but when it comes to books, I’m a bit more cautious. I mean, c’mon, literature is like an important thing and it does NOT come in cheap packages :)

So as what any chick-lit-fan would do, I scanned the back to make sure it would be worth the read (I also bought another book at the same sale, “Good Girls” by Laura Ruby, trust me, the only time I would ever read that book again was if I was held at gun-point in an attic of a decrepit warehouse in the middle of nowhere and the only chance I have of survival was if I read it). Going back, at the synopsis was a mention of www.savekaryn.com, a website I was sure I have heard of in one of the random episodes of Oprah, so I decided for 2bucks, it might not be all that bad.

Now, I didn’t read it as soon as I bought it nor did I start skimming through it when I got home. It’s not one of those, “I fell instantly in love with it upon reading the first paragraph of the first chapter”. Since my boyfriend and I were members at probably all the major bookstores in the country, I still had a few more purchases that I had yet to break into. So, I brushed Karyn aside to make way to my Old English Era obsession (Oh, the dear Philippa Gregory and the wonderful Margaret George).

A couple of months later – when I ran out of mint fresh books – I decided “Save Karyn” would be my next “take a break” (you see, I read a lot of heavy literature, I just somehow have an unexplainable passion for it, so once in every two, I take a break by reading a light-hearted chick lit selection).

It took a while before I was grabbed by the story. I mean, the story wasn’t all that fresh. She was a woman who had everything going for her; an apartment in New York that was a couple of blocks away from Bloomingdale’s and Saks Fifth, a great producer job on a brand new TV talk show, dating a guy who was really hot and had a steady-income, and shopping for big-time brands which some I can barely pronounce. This is all a been-there-done-that but what makes it different is that it is a memoir, a true story. Though, I don’t know if the author made a few things up to make it funnier (Karyn, I hope not).

Basically, her perfect life escalates after much disregard on her part when she adds up one too many purchases on her credit card (which happens to the best of us, let’s not judge) and was out of job after 9/11 that bought her to a debt of a staggering amount of $20,000/+-. She loses contact with hot-banker-boy-toy and moves to Brooklyn as she can no longer afford paying her ridiculous Manhattan rent.

And so her journey begins when she sets up a website asking people for money to help her pay off her debts. You would think no one would be stupid enough to actually give her cash but in matter of 20 weeks of donations and ebay sales, she was able to pay off her debt! Fancy that!

Now, people, it may seem like a good idea and some of you might want to try it out. But it doesn’t work as effectively as it used to anymore. Remember, she made her site in 2002 and published her book in 2003 so by now everyone has made their own websites asking for money and most have no success at all. There is even a term for it “internet begging” which I only found out about two months ago! So if you’re thinking about it, I advise you otherwise, but I’m not the smartest person so don’t take my word for it 100%.

What I do advise, though, is get a copy of the book. It is such a fun read, Karyn is witty, hilarious and the way she tells her story makes you feel for her. She didn’t just go out there and expect everyone to pitch in to pay her debt while she lives a carefree lifestyle – she actually made an effort to contribute what she can and make a stab on drinking Brita water (God bless her). But ultimately, she entertained so many readers with her antics posted on savekaryn.com and inspired a whole lot others in various ways.

Even if I don’t know her, I feel like I do and I completely relate to her (I do have a lump sum slowly being cleared on my credit cards, too). Visit her website, I’m sure any shopaholic as well as career-challenged individual would enjoy one way or another.

andeehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03895947041298432634noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2916606197112115020.post-42378391023608877602009-09-14T03:00:00.000-07:002009-09-21T23:52:56.554-07:00The Slacker in MeSo... I know I made a blog account thru my real name before but for some wierd reason, I can't find it. So here I am creating another one but I thought it be best if I make this named under my nom de plume, Autumn Riley :)

Not that it's gonna be any different, I guess I just was inspired to be anonymous when I read SaveKaryn.com, a hilarious, educational book for the jobless shopaholics by Karyn Bosnak. Really, that's a find!

Anyhow, from what I have decided in the last hour I've been trying to come up with a blog title - which was not much of a success, this is a temporary blog name, by the way - I would like to use this blog as my space for breathing. An answer for my search for "Something to do when I've got nothing to do" emergencies. I've always had nasty opinions about some stuff and sometimes smart anecdotes that I guess will be more or less worthy of a few reads from the general public.

Of course, I do apologize for straining your eyes from my future posts of nonsensical experiences --> i.e. my childhood (trust me, funnnyyy), my past relationships (I might border somewhere near here as much as I'd like to forget them), my recent purchases (oooohhh shopping!) and my past jobs and bosses (yes, definitely not to be missed - the bosses!). This is how every post will basically be tagged (or labelled).

With that said, I'm keeping my fingers crossed in high hopes of generating hits for my blog and well, at the least be able to entertain a few jobless shopaholic with a smart-alecky personality such as mine :) Cheers, people!andeehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03895947041298432634noreply@blogger.com0
